Coming onto the scene early fall of 2015, this prolific pair saturated the Edmonton music scene playing more than 250 live performances to date! Alexander and Jenesa MacMullin are a Canadian vintage pop duo with a jazz undertone. This powerhouse vocalist and innovative guitarist met at jazz school in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The couple’s passion is to use music as their ‘soap box’ to inspire others toward justice. After surviving nearly a decade of childhood sexual abuse, Alexander now ventures to give a voice to the growing epidemic. It wasn't until the two became friends at MacEwan University that Alexander first opened up about the trauma he faced and the resulting addictions he would later overcome.

From coffee shops to corporate banquets, audiences have been delighted by the couples authentic vintage look and modern sound. The couple has released music videos, a self-titled EP, appeared on Shaw Television and were featured on multiple radio stations including CBC Radio 1. In fall 2016 the couple was nominated for the GMA’s 38th Covenant Award for “New Artist of the Year”. Their track, “Kissed the Girls” was a finalist in the Los Angeles Top Vocalist competition and the New York John Lennon Songwriting Contest. The two took to the road in March 2017 on their first Western Canadian Tour and, most recently, the duo’s song “Complexion” was nominated for the Edmonton Music Award for the “Adult Alternative Recording of the Year” for 2016. This fall the duo will travel to Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, to film a documentary that they hope will inspire viewers to connect with organizations and put their passions into action. A pre-screening of the documentary will be held at Horizon Stage in Spruce Grove in November. Stay in touch with Soap Box Duo through social media for up-to-date details of their journey!

I would liken their music to a new, trendy café. It’s there and it’s only a matter of time before it gets noticed and becomes all the rage.
